Been a cichlid keeper all my life, but always wanted to try RBP, their definitely fun to watch during feeding time, but are their fun to watch when their not eating ?

Ive had piranha a few times and they are not the most interesting of fish. They are some of the most timid fish in the hobby and spend their time cautiously watching you. If you are thinking about them because you imagine voracious little monsters... id keep searching

they're as entertaining as any other fish. they dont juggle chainsaws or jump through flaming hoops but i don't believe cichlids do either haha.
No but most cichlids will notice you, come beg for food, challenge you if you get close etc. Most fish have personalities. Just happens piranha and rbp especially have the personality if a terrified child.

Either youve never owned piranha, never owned cichlids or maybe both but they do not act like 99.9% of fish and definitely one of the most timid fish in the hobby.

I agree with what everyone said, verrrrrry timid fish. the only really cool piranha tanks that I have seen are enormous, like zoo sized, then they feel safe enough to actually swim around and look interesting

Agree with everyone else here. My suggestion would be to get black piranha. From my research they are suppose to be very aggressive and interactive with their owner. I owned 7 large piranha and they were boring after 2 weeks

Even thats a toss up. I had a 12" rhom for a year and toward the end he just started to eat when I was in the room nevermind interact other than do everything he could to avoid me in a 150g

I have 9 piranhas. 8redbellies and an eigenmanni. N like you said...they have their own personalities. some are timid..some are not...just like every other fish.
