I have a Rena XP-1, XP-3 and a XP-4. My XP-4 top recently started leaking through the electrical wire so Im done with it.
What Im wonderring is if the XP-3 top will function on the XP-4 body and can I then move my XP-1 top to the XP-3? I know that the tops will fit, Im just wonderring if there will be any adverse affects due to the different flow rates. How do you all think this will affect performance?

I do not see why they wouldn't. They are all basically the same filter with different motors and media compartments.

Yeah, thats what im thinking. It will basically be a XP-4 with a slower flow rate, which might even be better for bio filtration anyways right?

Sounds like it. I would do it if that was the case for me.

Yep should be fine i swapped my xp3 to an xp2 body while a new one was delivered.

My question is, can you use a Xp4 impeller in a lower model.

Dont know but mine ran ok with the 3 in the 2

I have both the xp2 and 3 I don't own a 4 I thought the 4 was physically larger than the 2 and 3 ( I don't mean taller).

Nope, the 4 is just one more stack taller.

Thought I would update on how it went.
When I put the top from the XP-1 ont the 3 it leaked. I couldnt figure out why but it was a significant leak. After spilling alot of water trying to figure it out, I went ahead and put the XP-1 top on the XP-4 body to trouble shoot it. It didnt leak. I then put the original top back on the XP-3 and it works fine. Im guessing that some slight deformation in the XP-3 is keeping the other top from fitting correctly.
So now I have an XP-3 proper and a XP-4 body with the XP-1 top. I set up the media so the tall one is primarily a bio filter and the XP-3 is mechanical.
I set this up on the assumption that slower flow rate is better for bio-filtration than faster flow.
In a couple days I'll see if I can figure out why the XP-4 top started leaking in the first place.
Has anyone else had their Rena start leaking through the electrical cord?
