Are Saltwater Aquariums Difficult To Mantain?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I find that the initial investment is more but as far as maintaining the aquarium....It just as if not easier than FW IMO.

IMO Saltwater is a lot more easy then freshwater. My best freind was my auto top off. Basically I water changed ~1-2 months or when the glass/acrylic got dirty. You only really need a skimmer if your going to do SPS corals, If not then the high nutrient water will help growth is softies and LPS corals. Just have good water movement inside the tank and you should be fine.

Saltwater tanks are an investment BUT they are worth every single penny when you set up you tank and take your time and get real involved with it and you'll enjoy and love it for years and years and keep adding tanks along the way :)

almost the same as book I suggest only a bit more detailed and geared toward first time reef keepers.

hey mr.reef 24 i read the book while i was volentering at lfs helped alot but wuld still read your book you shuld put a mfk site shout at the end or bigginning. but back to op salt is wonderful take the advice given and if it gets contradicted at lfs dont listen these guys have been doing this for years they are a bit pricy to get going but imo they are easy to maintain even though you may here that you do or dont need a skimmer it can be handy to have one even if u use it every once in a while thats what i do probly gona catch crap for sayen that . o and mr.reef24s info is like gold use as much as posible as well as every one elsees info.

I have a 55 and its pretty easy to maintain
I have a protein skimmer and a fuge
I do water changes like 5 gallons every 2-3(sometimes) months and the tank looks great

Go with the berlin method. Lots of flow, Light and a good skimmer.
Once you get the tank going its not that bad. The worst part of saltwater was the initial price, once you get past that the prices are a little higher but not terribly more expensive.
Water changes sucked to do every week until I realized my tank did alot better doing a water change every month or so.
Its very rewarding and I do miss it but freshwater has the allure of being totally different flavor of exotic and alot cheaper ;)
