I've heard of (not personally seen) flagtails in the 20-24" range, but they were around 10-15 years old. I remember one discussed in a large build thread a few weeks ago

Looking at articles and postings on this site and others, I see articles listing the max size at 9" (which I know is incorrect-I've seen bigger in person) to people mentioning having 18 inchers. I'm certain I saw mention of a 23 incher in a thread I read withing the last month. Even if that's an over estimate, I'd still expect them to get around 18" given plenty of room (and time)

They are REALLY cool fish though-great color, good algae eaters, very active. I'm VERY glad I got mine the only time I ever saw them for sale. I actually got two and I'm really mad I lost the other one (not to fighting though-they were in separate tanks-power outage dropped the O2 in the smaller tank before I could do anything)

wow, i never knew they could get that big! sorry for ur loss:(

One will be fine in your tank. Keeping more than 1 together unless the tank is gigantic can cause promblems with fighting.

I used to own a flagtail. Only downside of mine, was that is kept on sucking the slime coat off my silver dollar. It was enough to make the flesh show.

wow, i forgot all about this thread, its almost year old!

anyways, i went through 2 flag tails, both were eaten by my motoro. i sold the ray about 2 months ago and set up a SA setup which includes the following:

5 X 6'' silver dollars.
1 X 8'' L-152 Pineapple.
1 X 8'' flag tail.
1 X 8'' Tiger Oscar
1 X 8'' Green Terror

and of course i had to keep my loyal bichirs from the original set up, 1 X 8'' long fin senegalus and 1 X 8'' palmas polli.

the tank looks great, im using PFS and a large manzanita stump with branches, surrounded by 36'' fake bamboo leaf plants.

i will start a whole new thread dedicated to the set up once i find my camera, or steal the girlfriend's.
