Are senegalas good starter polys?

I've never had a poly before and have always heard wonderful things about these fish and wish to dive right in. I currently have an empty 40b and was wondering how many I could put in there?

Yes. Any poly is really a good starter poly because they aren't that hard to keep. A 40b is a little small as sens get up to 10 inch. A palmas would grow a little slower and I've even had some max out under 8"

Welcome to the club! Sens are the perfect beginner poly because they are easy to get, cheap, and hardy. you can keep 3 to 4 sens in the breeder tank perhaps for life! They only grow to approx 8 inches ( if they are captive bred).

I'm not sure that's true. But either way op just do a little research on upper jaw species and you can pick which one you want. They are all just as easy to take care of

Stick with an upper jaw species, mostly for size considerations, most polys will work just fine, they're very hardy fish, and are quite personable. I'd personally recommend a senegal, primarily because of their availability and lower price tag. As I said they have great personality and generally they're quite addictive.

+1 on the sen, like everyone else has said, they're cheap and available, at the price tag of about $5 they're well worth buying, just wake sure your tank is covered and good luck!

been keeping one thats about 8" and just ordered an albino. shouldnt be much problem then as long as he dosent get eaten then i guess
