wow...I've got so much to learn. I am still struggling with differentiating the Kamalau from the Kamfa from the King Kamfa, ZZ....But I am really curious as now I have one. And I really enjoy him.

A lot of people struggle identifying a Kamalau from a Kamfa. So many new strains out there, a lot being cross bred over one another. It is tough to be call which is which, unless said itself from a breeder. I'll give you a hint with Kamalau though, they always have yellow or at least kind of light yellow to them. Or if you see a fish that half of the body is yellow, def a Kamalau aka GM.

cool, thats really good info

Nope, I would not agree by it. Short body is just more of a translation term for the FH word. Bonsai, means short in another language. :)

Bonsia translates to a chinese word meaning having something to do with trees and shrubbery... What im guessing is "Bonsia" was created as more of a marketing term to describe A+ quality SB's.
Kirin or Killin on the other hand translates from the chinese word qi-lin meaning unicorn. Kirins usually have the beak trait and strange head from blood parrots.
This is what each specimen should resemble to my understanding

i think you nailed it :)

Im going to disagree just for the sake of a decent topic.
I believe SBFH's can get pretty big while Quality Bonsias have a distinct head shape thats more parrot-esk. Plus they stay rather small.
Bonsai or Kirin are shorter and more parrot ball like. SBFH have been bred to have short bodies while Bonsai's are a FH-parrot hybrid(if you will)
Does anybody else agree with that classification?
That bonsai is a type of SBFH? If not, it should be because theres a big difference between a SBFH and a real thai Bonsai
If my theory is correct, thats a SBFH ZZ you got there. Very nice, Well worth $100

kirin parrots are a totally different thing to bonsai and SB

Correct, but keep checking on it. :D

Another differences I'm aware of are bonsai usually doesn't grow large kok (hump), and body are more round, looks like a pearl scale gold fish vs SB just has shorter body but not as round.

Are they they the same thing in the FH realm? I may purchase, what I thought is a bonsai, but it is labeled short body. Though it matters none to me. I kinda dig the little fella.

Im sorry to say some of the other posters are completely wrong. Short body is more of a compacted body of flowerhorn, shorter. Bonsai is very compact round in shape.

in more technical term...
to define a normal body , short body or a bonsai.
it is the vertical size against the horizontal size.
if it is a 1:1 ratio it is a bonsai
1:1.5 if my memory is right is a short body
1: 2 would be our regular body Fh.

Definition of bonsai shortbody or normal body is irrespective of the quality of the fish.
