Are Silver Arowana dangerous to humans?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there have been reports of large, wild redtails eating small children , not sure if theyre true though. how big is this pond anyway.

the dogs gonna scare the aro and it will jump not to mention the oil and dirt and god knows what else off the dog will get in the water. in your other thread you said nothing about filtration, only a water fall. i think the whole pond sounds like its a train wreck waiting to happen. if your dog wants to swim let him get in the aquarium in the house, same thing.

also, pacus have insane teeth and can do some serious damage.

So I want to buy a Silver Arowana and my dog will go swimming in the pond, will the Arowana bite? Also what about these fish? Will they bite humans or dogs?:

Red Tail Catfish
Pacu
Electric Yellow Cichlid
Leichardti Arowana (variant of the Jardini Arowana)
Cyphotilapia Frontosa
Asian Arowana
Paroon Shark

Are they not illegal where you are?

Onto the others i've got: I've had a harmless nip off my aro at feeding time when he mistook my fingers for the piece of fish i was holding for him, other than that he normally goes and hides if i get in the pool to do maintenance.

Red Tailed Catfish i'd treat the same as i do all my other big pims when i go paddling, be aware they're there! If it's big enough to fit in it's mouth and it tastes nice then it could get swallowed. There are reports of really big pims like piraiba swallowing people, so a huge rtc at 5 feet you'd need to keep an eye on. They don't have teeth to worry about, but i hand feed some of mine and you can feel the huge suck from there mouth when they take food from your hands and their mouth isn't somewhere i want my fingers to go! When paddling they do pay an interest in toes but so far none have tried to eat them:nilly:

Pacu would be a worry, they have strong teeth and will eat pretty much anything. I've seen pictures on here of a guys finger after his pacu bit him while doing some tank maintenance. Not pretty. And they're the boys i keep my eye on the most when i do work in mine.

Cichlids have a good bite on them too if they're not happy with you, think how many guys and girls on here describe their glass bangers. They'd happily take a bite at their owners if they could and i'd imagine something like a dovii's teeth sinking in would not be pleasant (luckily mines a big wuss) but even Oscars can draw blood.

I hope you realize I am not that retarded : D. I will definitely have a filter, my porn is about 18,000 litters, my pump runs at 7,000 litters and my filter runs at 15,000 litters. Which means that the water goes through the filter slower than it was meant to, making it even more clean.

Only wild Redtails grow to 5 feet, in aquarium they only grow to 4 feet, and it takes a while for them to get that big. I am not getting Pacu any ways, I was just interested because I heard they are quite bity and they have huge square teeth, their teeth are not sharp, just huge and it will probably break your bone.

I'd also worry about the dog going fishing.

Lol, thats what I am worried about as well, I mean if a fish tries to hurt him, he will probably kill him with its pinky, he doesn't take **** from any body, he used to bully a St Bernard that he met at the park every day, he was half his friggin size.

But he is generally very good with our chickens, once in a while he does chase them but he thinks they are playing with him, he runs slowly, because he wants the chickens to feel good about how fast they can run, if he wanted to kill them it would only take him heart beat. So I will have to try it out, if he does seem to bother the fish, I will teach him not to go near the pond, I remember when we had our chickens and he would always stand near them and scare them but I teached him not to go near them, I am sure I can do the same with the pond.
