Hi dudes, just an enquiry... are spotted gar and pleco(any types) compatible??

i heard that the pleco will attack the gar and suck off it slim coat... is it true....

i have been wanting to keep a pleco in my tank but after hearing such bad news, i back off as my gar is in tip top condition....

if the rumours are untrue, pls advice me on what type of pleco i should get, now in my tank are 2 temensis, 1 senegal bichir, 1 spotted gar and 1 barramundi...

any help will be appreciated.... thanks... :naughty:

Wow you should shoot the person that told ya that lol. Other catfish are more prime to have problems with slime coat, but it is totally untrue the only prob I have had with a plec is a vampire plecostomus runnin my common plec out of the tank.... but the vampire is quite ornery... also I would say they and brusselnose/bushynose plecs are really good and very hardy and cant go wrong with common plecs either...

Second that, only problems you will have with plecs and most fish is when fish are so ill they cannot move, pleco will then rasp on skin, never seen it done unless fish is near death.

i have a gar and pleco in the same tank never had a problem

the only reason i took the pleco out of mine was it was a S*&T machine 1 large pleco made more waste that the other fish in the tank he was in there to clean up bits of food and he was a git for digging up things

Postio. A question if I may. Does your gar require tiny sized foods? Where I live, gars can go 6 FEET in length. They have a tiny throat. Fishermen use tiny minnows to catch them. I know there are many gar species ans, I was wanting to know.
