I need some opinions. I want to get my boyfriend a trail camera, but I don't know anything about the brands. Based on the reviews I found on the internet, I've been looking at the Moultrie I60 and I40 as the best rated (that I can afford anyway). I'd love to get him a Reconyx, but I have other places I could put that much money (like my Jeep :naughty:).

So anyways, I'd like to keep it around $200.

Thoughts anyone?

I'm surprised there aren't more hunters on MFK, there are plenty of firearm enthusiasts! :)

Where I live almost everybody hunts - we get deer, elk, coyotes, and even the occasional bobcat through our yard all the time. One of my students brought in some really good cougar photos that his grandpa got with a trail camera. I will ask if he knows the brand. He said they got it for him from the Cabela's catalog and that it cost about $200.00, but that's all I know.

I just have a cheapy and it still uses 35mm film. I desperately want a nice digital, but its not in my budget right now. I'm not sure what the best brands are, but I would look at Like the bushnell sentry, because they're more affordable. Upon closer review their ratings are very low...
4.0 mega pixels is probably the lowest resolution that I would go with. If you're down around 2mp then we're talking cell phone picture quality. YUCK!

What's a trail camera? Is that like one of those tree mounted motion cameras?

Yep :)

Yeah, I was looking at the Bass Pro website for reviews. Cabela's is usually pretty expensive. I was thinking whichever one I decide to get I might be able to find cheaper on Ebay.

I didn't read good things about Bushnell either. I really want to get him a good one, he does so much for me....and puts up with my fish addiction :D

I did read about a Walmart cheapy that was only about $100 that seemed to take decent pictures if that would be better for your budget ;)
See the third one down, Moultrie Game Watcher: http://www.chasingame.com/reviews_moultrie.htm

Edit:The review says 2.0mp, but the newest version is 4.0

CUDDEBACK for sure its the best brand out there! Im looking at one for where my dad and i hunt. Here is the link to the cuddeback website there is a chart comparing their cameras http://www.cuddeback.com/comparison_chart.html.

Why do you like Cuddeback specifically? I was not real impressed with the reviews.

I like Cuddeback because of all the features and the clarity of the pictures. The only bad thing i could really find is that it eats a lot of batteries but there is a solar panel that you can buy to hook into the camera. This is just my preference but everyone has their own so. Good luck finding a trail cam.
