Are there different types of managuense cichlid?

Does your convicts live with your Jag? I actually have my FM in with him now. They are a little bigger than the jag (for now) and they currently rule my tank. I figure I will have to do some rearranging when the jag starts showing aggression. Kind of hoping he ignores them though.

So far, yes. Jag is very mellow at 8 inches. My 10 inch male synspilum keeps the peace. I know it can all go south in a hurry if the jag flips the switch...

So far I have been unable to get a picture. My Jag has been hiding for 2 days. My Firemouths have babies and they are dominating the tank. they keep the jag cowering behind some plants. I was sort of hoping this jag would eat some of the fry because I am over run with fry. These fire mouth have gone from completely peaceful to nuts they are dominating tank and even have my JD and Salvini hiding.

The good is the color has come back in the Jags tail and it is the dark dark blue with white spots. The bad is I havent been able to see him in eat in two day because he is hiding. I hope he is getting food I don't know if he eats the pellets I feed. I may throw in some frozen blood worms tonight no fish can refuse them

Why not just divide the firemouth pair for the rest of the tank? Would give him time to settle in and give all the fish a break from.the pairs aggression.

Usually not a good idea to put cichlid pairs in a community... u should just get a 40g for your 2 firemouths, everyone is going to be constantly stressed in that set up.

Yeah I might have to do that. I don't have room for another tank at the moment. Last night I built a "wall" of plants and that has given a little break for the other fish. I will decide this weekend on what to do. Maybe I can get rid of the bonded pair. Since I have two sets of fry from them I can select a few juvies to raise up . Give the tank a real break. Kind of a bummer to give them up since they are my favorite but its also not fun watching them terrorize everything else.

I though FM where on the more peaceful side as far as cichlids go I didn't think they would be able to back down the other fish I have in there. Oh well live and learn.

They are somewhat peaceful species but any breeding pair will cause problems in a tank

Just put them up in the market place with pics so hopefully someone will show some interest. I love these fish so its sad but I cant handle any more breeding.

I removed the FM's the babies got eaten and the tank is much happier everyone is out and about. I tried putting just the male FM back in to see what would happen and he spent all day terrorizing everyone. So Sunday night he came back out. Looks like he is going to be rehomed permanently. The female i put in the fry tank with her first batch and all is going well there. I wish I could keep the male cause he has remarkable colors.

Good news is the Managuens is out and a bout he. Darts for cover when I approach the tank. I have to sit very still for him to come out of hiding. Once he gets used to me I will try and get a pic. The more research I have done and more I have observed mine I think he is just a darker colored managuens. The dark black has a blue tint to is and the white spots I think that is the start of the patterning that emerges in adults.
