I am not so convinced on all the fake plants from craft stores. A lot of them have metal wires under the plastic so you arrange the plant however you like. I have tons of these I used for reptiles, but I don't think they would be good for under water. I think as long as there is no metal, you will be fine, just rinse/wash it really well as they are not intended for aquaria. A lot of the more colorful fabric ones are made with dyes as well. Stick with plastic only.

I would have to second that. I don't trust anything that isn't labeled to be used in a fish tank, and I don't trust some stuff that is. There are wires in most fake plants you get from craft stores (I used to do arrangements with my mom), and some of the dyes aren't so "permanent". The fancy plants giants are nice and reasonable. Check on drsfostersmith.com for them.
