Very interesting. Does anyone have anymore info on this species? And a picture maybe?
Found the following info:
This species, described from the Ilha Mexicana in the Amazonias, is almost identical with P.motoro.It can be distinguished from that species only by the form of the ocelli and their colour which is generally dark red to rusty brown in contrast to P.motoro, where itis more or less orange.
These differences alone are probably not sufficient to justify regarding P.ocellata as a seperate species, but there are no records of these breeding with " normal " P.motoro in captivity, and given the known tendency of potamotrygonids to hybridise in nature, this would be a strong indication that speciation is at least in progress. The holotype has a width of about 20cm, and was thus not full grown.
