abit of a thread dig, but iv been there fishing about 4-5 times great fun.
easily catch 100-200 fish.
lots of devils, some very very pretty devils bright red ones, also one that i kept and had as a pet for about 6-8months had slight green in the face brown/red body and stripes down him, a mate also has one although his is large and its pretty much black with white strips almost like a convict but the same of a devil, loverly fish but very very aggresive.
as mentioned, some sort of zebra which are very pretty also, some really nice convicts and the tialpia. guppies can also be neated if u are fast which seemed to have crossed with the local mosquito population.
its mostly all devils, but very very cool you can look into the water and see dominate zebra's defending their little caves etc against others.
Right on...definitely on your next trip show pics of the specimens you catch.

hi guys i used to live in melbourne and if im right i think its hazelwood pondage, there is a large lake there and the water isnt hot in melbourne at all, like it cant keep tropical fish alive, but hazelwod pondage is heated by an electrical plant that uses the water to run their turbines, there have been many schemes thought up to remove them but its just not possible. they planned to net it but way to many cichlids there and could not possibly catch all the fish, also there is a stream leading out of the lake that contains australain natives so the plan to poison it was also eliminated (that and the cost for the huge amount of poison needed), "but" the council isnt gonna waste it. there is a scheme to release barramundi into it so they eat the cichlids and so that anglers can catch them, barra are like "one" of our best or our best sports fish by the way and cannot normally survive in our southern states so anglers dont have to travel heaps to enjoy reeling one in:naughty:
hope this helps and oh yea people go there alot and try to make money off of the awesome fish they look like they are from the lake(no joke) like the zebras are amazing but probably hybrid

and i heard from a guy i know at a lfs that they loose there color to some degree after a few months of being in a tank, because apparently there are minerals in the water to enhance the color, and they are EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE:WHOA:

BEN

sound fracking sick im goijng there on the weekend its gunna be sick

Very common. Why were they in a lake?

they arnt common in australia...and victoria, ( south part of australia gets quite cold, easily 10-14degs in winter, to have a population of fish that you wouldnt find anywhere else but a fish shop is quite unique. on a winters morning it is quite a sureal place, frezing cold and a massive lake thats 25degs with steam pouring off it.
just wondeing if anyone else has beent there sinse? i havent been back for ages.
heard a report of a barra being caught there from the owner of a fishshop, appretly some may have been released to knock off all the dam devils???

guppies dont cross with gambusia. the guppies there would have gone back to less colourful ones because humans no longer select the parent stock and maybe the predators there eat flashy looking big tailed guppies.

O.o. there are allot of new members from Australia making there first post on this thread......?..strange

anyway neat sounding lake show us some pics.
