They look like it to me, though it is gonna be hard to say for sure, since the barred amphilophus look very similar and they all can get a bit of red coloration. If they look like this, and were sold to you as isletas, I would believe it.

He didn’t know called them Midas

Female looks more like one than male to me. If he called them midas, they are probably normal barred midas. Nice fish either way!

Unless you know the history of the fish I personally don't think you can assign a species name to it from looks.
There still good looking amphs though.

Isletas don't get head humps from my research, or very minor at least. That male looks all Midas to me, female looks good as does the male tho. Great pick up.
