Ok here we go.. i feel that this topic has the potential to be a bit controversial.
As always, let us respect each others opnions. Were a community here ...

So how do you view your fish? Are they purely pets, purely collections , classified into other categories? , partly pets , part collection???

Ill start... i think my fish are both pets and my collections. I do not have any other
pets other than fish ( except for frt) . But on the same token, i would not classify my fish in the same league as dogs... theyre pets but theyre not to be cuddled and love. Theyre my pride and joy as pets and collections. Complicated eh ? But thats how i view my fish.

Whos next ??? .. dont be shy and afraid of your views.,,, I have friends who treat their fish as collections and not pets. Doesnt mean that they take care of their fish any less than i do .IMO there is no right or wrong answer here..

yeah i would have to agree, i also consider mine a little bit of both.. most of my fish are very personable and are like puppy dogs where they know your their owner and are very responsive as pets.. but i keep a lot of fish, mostly one per kind.. which i do call my collection :)

actually that we are very fortunate in that we have a 2 in 1 deal.. some people have a pet and a colletion while we have both in one :)

honestly i havent really thought of categorizing them. but i would probably go with all my most of my current fish as collection, but my aro and my butti would be pets. my daughters consider their fish as pets, i consider them as fish food.

Depends on the fish. My catfish, oscars, convicts and other such fish are pets. My corydoras, minnows, otocinclus and such are not really pets that much.

Agreed, both, some more one than the other. Tetras are pretty little tank fillers and potential feeders, Larger longer lived fish tend to be pets.

I have seriously not given this much though, I do not want to call my pets because if something would happen such as emergency money or something along those lines I would not think too much about selling the fish or trading them where as my dog who I consider my pet I would not trade him for almost anything in this world.. he is like family to me. Collections then? I guess? :headshake

Ive never thought about it that way. But i guess you guys have a point. The larger ones tend to be considered as pets and the smaller ones as collections. LOL its crazy but i just realized thats how i look at em too.
