On another note.. do you name your fish ?? I just call them by the common or scientific names.

I used too..hehe. I named my first clown knife with a name that i was saving for a bull terrier that i was wanting to get. Ramses like the egyptian pharoah. but i got my Dat sometime after that clownknife and swapped the name to him, then i got my Aro and used the name on him. so instead of passing the same name to all my fish i just stopped naming them. by the way i never got to get the bull terrier i wanted to name ramses in the first place.

I see the more ornamental and delicate fish as collections, as you might, say an expensive painting. This is a loaded question. As I'm thinking what to type, I'm starting to think. At what point to they stop becoming pets and start becoming collectibles? I guess I'm a little of both.

LOL islander.. thats funny. I just call them "the big datnoid is picking on the small datnoid again.. that !*&$^(!*&(! " like that.

TG - its not really loaded but more like a survey to see what the majority think about their fish. =)

well, i fall in the middle somewhere.... have not named any of my fish, but would get bummed if one died..... i feel the same about any of the critters i care for, though...
to me, collecting is for those into dolls, stamps, coins, salt shakers.... inanimate objects, actually!
is just my two cents!! take care!

Really both for me. We are fortunate enough, I guess in this hobby
to have both those options. I think some fish are just part of your
"collection" and the bigger one's tend to be more of your favorites
because they are bigger/personable or have been around for a while.
I personally just like to sit there and look at them. But after getting
into this sight(MFK) I like looking at all the MFK's tanks out there too.
I gotta say most all of you have great tanks that make me jealous
and I thought I had come along way with four 125 g's!! :hitting:

i don't name my fish too.. since i mostly keep one of each species i call them by common names :)

I think of my larger fish as pets ..But my African Cichlid tanks I consider as a viewing tank/collection.

Really I never thought of it .

Mine are all pets for me, from a womans point of view...lol...I also have names for my bigger older fish...When one dies, I am sad...lol...My aro, oscar, IT, and all of my polys have names...lol...Guess thats what girls do! They name their fishies! lol
