Are two fluval 405 and 1 fluval 404 better than a fluval fx5?

As stated thanks

I am not familiar with the entire Fluval lineup as far as media capacity and flowrates, but I would think that if they can hold more media combined, then they would be better.

Flowrate is not everything. If you need mech, get something with high flow, but for bio, slow is better.

A 2217 holds 6 liters; a fluval 405 holds 9.

My 404s work great, I have 2. I don't think a fx5 holds twice as much, but it also costs less than twice as much.

i've used fluvals and eheims.... i prefer the fluvals hands down.... right now i'm running mainly fx5 (one 405 also, and one of the eheims) and would say go for the fx5, great filter. lol or go for two 405 and a fx5 now thats filtration

I would say the three filters of yours are probably as good as running one fx5.
That being said, maintenance would be easier with one filter than 3 :)

Keep it simple. 1 fx5

I got a fx5 and if I remember right it holds 2 or 3 gallons of water.

Once I am on fx5 I wouldn't want to go for anything else. So easy to maintain and do a great job. Ehiem you paying for the name not the filter and try to get ehiem part.
