Are two fluval 405 and 1 fluval 404 better than a fluval fx5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if the total sum of media is higher in the 3 then the FX 5 then defiantly go with the 3 filters!!

if u have one filter and it breaks then ur screwed, but if u have 3 then u will have 2 more to back it up just in case something happens to 1!!!!

i use the FX 5 and an Eheim 2028 on my 120G, it gives me peace of mind knowing i still have one filter operating if one fails.

Never rely on a single filter.
I have relied on single filter filtration for over 12 years. Give canisters filters a bit more credit than this.

The canisters I have are Fluval 304 and Fx5. The 304 at this time needs to get some replacement parts as its over 11 years old. Parts of nothing to do with the pump portion.

You're better off having a few in case one ....... becomes clogged.
Only people that do not maintain their filters at all will have on clog. Not talking about the Fx5 owners though :). My 304 I just look for a reduced flow after 1-2 months. I use filter fiber in the baskets which has VERY small cross sectional surface area. (I don't want to hear about me using the wrong term such as cross sectional surface area, It's correct)

I've been runnign my Fluvual 405 for about a year with no problems and crystal Clear water. You only have to be careful with cleaning the internal parts

three 404/5s will be better than 1 fx5.
