Are Y'all Rich or Something?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not rich, but my boss is and happens to be a good friend (he owns several companies and is a millionaire a few times over) and he is one of the coolest people I've ever met. My best friend is borderline poor living check to check and sometimes place to place (usually mine). My point is if you choose your friends based on anything other than the type of person they are then you are fake and an A-Hole. With that said my "friends" are people that I have deemed trust worthy and thereful discussing my financial situations/worries/status is absolutely acceptable. Now that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, I was just wandering how a majority of my fellow hobbiest pay for/obtain & maintain their hobby and there awesome tanks. Why being "rich" or "poor" or any other variation/combination of is a hot topic for anyone is sad, because an A-Hole is an A-Hole no matter what their financial status is.

PS: "the above post was created by a user hopped up on too much coffee, the poster may or may not have any idea of what he actually wrote under these effects. The above post was actually written over a 1hr period in which he was doing other activities, thus loosing his train of thought. The above post may or may not make any sense, but the poster does insist that the above post was not directed at any user or persons associates with the amazing website know as Monsterfishkeepers.com."

Edit: I wrote the above over an hour, in which time their where more post about this thread which I should address. First I do not care if your Rich or not, I was trying to be funny in they way I asked (look at the name of the thread). I meant no offense to anybody, but it was fueled by my curiosity. I do not know a single person on this site in real life, so me knowing your wealth IRL has no sway on me in the slightest. The post above was a joke to try to relieve some of the negative vibe building up on a thread that was not meant to be taken offensive.

I am not rich but I am well off for my age (23) with a career in criminal justice. Also my girlfriend of six years splits everything with me because our fish obsession is equal.

That said, the mortgage comes first and I don't really save up any money because of this hobby.

craig list can be your best friend if you dont mind buying second hand, there are times when you can even get brand new there as well. saving and planning, planning and saving... and last but not least sometime you just get what you want and do without something else......

Cool dude, Im 23 too, with a my career growing in Construction Engineering. But I don't have a GF who shares my love for fish, she actually hates it, but we don't live together so its all good...for now!

I've been into fishkeeping for decades, monsters are a new thing for me but I've always managed to find a way to do it with whatever funds I have available, just have to be inventive!

I wholeheartedly agree. Planning and saving is everything. I had some relatives come over once and they saw my 65" TV. One of them said "Oh man youre lucky!" Luck had nothing to do with it. I busted my *** and saved and planned so I could get something special that I wanted. Same goes with my fishkeeping.

This thread makes me very uncomfortable. I prefer not to discuss my financial worth with acquaintances and friends. It always changes the dynamic of the relationship and I dont want to be treated differently. But people definitely seem to resent the wealth of others, and I certainly do not wish to cause envy by discussing the ease with which I buy even the most high-ticket luxury items. Its not like most folks can discuss high end watch and pen collections or the contents of my wine cellar.

I'm picturing a middle aged man with a smoking jacket and hair plugs pimping a Rolox watch. One of my favorirte posts ever.
