man, i hate these types of questions because you never really know what your gonna do until that really happens to you. I would like to think I would jump in, maybe i would. Not 100% sure though. 
see I think of it this way.... I surf... I see sharks 1-15+ft. sometimes just swimming around and they dont bother me, I ve seen other surfers get attacked a few yards from me, I ve seen a long boarders save them... so I have a theory unless I piss off the sharks they arnt really going to do anything =) unless its a bullshark cuse those things are mean, this one chased down a boat and rammed it several times...prob trying to knock off the people...must of been one hungry mofo!!

No matter how poetic this may sound, I agree with blacktip. family is family. Especially if it is your mom. Would I jump into the ocean full of man eating sharks? probably not, but in reality, compassion is unconditional. I will think of a way to save him/her, but will not jeopardize my life also. Someone has to live to tell the story.
if it were my mom or little bro, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Anybody else and i might flinch.

I would still save them though. I love fame, and people like acts of "courage"... It would also put them indept to me, which is a big bonus.
