Very good read with so much useful information. Thanks DavidW for taking the time to type all of that.

Good stuff, I think the same could be said for any bottom dwelling amazonian fish.
I have a story from the early years of my hobby
2 years before i moved i had 2 Bgk's and the temp of the water was 74'f and they were
active as they were young and only 1 inch long but they grew relatively fast.
about 2 months in they were 7 inches each and my heater broke, so i got a new better one
when i tested the temp before i replaced the heater i thought that 74 was a bit low so
i replaced the heater and set it to about 81 slowly raising the temp over the course of 2 weeks.
after 1 week with the new heater one of the bgk's got really aggressive(he would bite the other one for hiding spots) and they stopped growing.
they also weren't as active and were hiding more and occasionally
they would gulp air at the surface. later they died of unknown causes but i couldn't
find out how until i read a thread about the symptoms of overheating, one of
the symptoms was gulping at the surface, so they died of overheating
(the new heater was keeping the water at 84' and i didnt know, probs from keeping my windows open in the day...
so there you have it keeping the temp lower is always better!

this is a great read especially at the moment i am stressing due to possibly loosing a pup :(

An interesting read. I remember seeing this before but I don't think I took the time to read it in its entirety.
