Are you in the Aquatic trade????

I worked for Petsmart as the Specialty manager (petcare/Aucuatics). I was there for 4 years.
I've also worked at a small LFS.

Working with fish and animals has it's bonuses. But doing it in a retail environment is not a good idea.
If it has shown me anything. It is that there are a lot of stupid people out there.
It's good to be there to show those people how to do it right, but more than half of them either don't care
or don't have the mental capacity for learning new things.

Sadly have to agree with this.

i work at my lfs and i really enjoy it but as everyone has said, you do have to deal with a lot of ignorant people

It's not just in retail. "Professional" keepers deal with that as well.

I spent 2 years working in a retail environment with fish (and reptiles). It can be rewarding but will ultimately bring you down with people. It was great when i could go above and beyond to meet someones needs whether it was a new setup for a newb or assisting an expert. Personally, it never spoiled the hobby for me and it kept me enthusiastic and up to date.

I had a good time, but have sworn to never work in a setting that involves the sale of live animals ever again. Its not as exciting being on the other side of the fence, but its a load off your shoulders.

And if anything, it makes me wish there was some sort of governing body over the pet trade. From a kindness to animals perspective...a lot of sick and unnecessary stuff goes down.

i worked in one a few years ago. everyone seems to want to put "nemo fish" in goldfish bowls. and the parents would willingly do it. they dont realise cold unsalted water is probably one of the cruelest deaths for a clown thats been cosey in a nice salinity tank.
but yeah i agree alot of the people you want to help will just try to argue with you thinking they can keep 6 jaguar cichlids in a 100g tank happily for life
