Ok, I know Convicts are mean mofo's and all but come on....
Back in late April I put a batch of Convict fry in my 75g tank as feeders. The biggest one was MAYBE 1/4 of an inch, I'll post picture later of the fry bunch before I put them in. Anyway, fast forward to today...
One of the Convict fry survived. It didn't just survive but thrived. At a whopping inch and half, this Convict is now CLEARLY #2 in the pecking order in a tank with 3 Midas between 3.5-5 inches. And is challenging #1 despite being about 1/5 the mass. I just cant believe it. You know your life sucks when your food is picking on you!
It would be one thing if these were Severum or Oscars or some other low aggression cihcilid. But these are Midas. Midas that I've watched attack my Pleco relentlessly, kill two of my full grown giant danios and act in every aggressive manner that you can imagine, including charging the glass when I walk up to the tank. Hell, the most dominate male, which is now being challenged by the Convict, has an excellent nuchal hump growing despite being just short of 5".
Anyway....
I'll post some pictures in a bit but I just had to get that off my chest. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him as I'm selling the Midas to make room for my 9" Midas to go into the tank. At this point I'm thinking he's earned a life greater then being food.
