I met a bloke recently who is downsizing his ray collection as he’s gonna be moving interstate next year. Short story is that based on the size of my tank and the healthy look of my 3 rays, he is donating his pure black diamond male to me to add to my collection. It was purchased from PF in 2022, is rolled and ready, and 14” disc width. Driving to pick it up next week!
Here’s a few pics. First 2 are recent. 2nd are for sale image and newly received at his home. I’m amazed at his generosity, and stoked to add this guy to my collection 🤩

The plan is to divide my 560gal tank and have the BD male and BD hybrid female on one side, and my BD hybrid male and brown based hybrid female in the other.
These combos;
1.

2.

Hoping for some nice black based pups and cool patterned brown based pups!

Thats awesome man congrats! Have you ever posted pictures of your setup id love to see it?

Thanks mate, truly awesome! My set up is very plain, pool sand substrate & otherwise bare. I was encouraged, since rays are very powerful and move decor around, to leave it bare. For now that is the plan since breeding is my goal in addition to enjoyment 👍🏼

The sand always looks great with rays I think, I just worry about them eating it. Though I do know they love to bourogh

Apparently they love eating snails. My guys spend the day sucking in and spitting out sand all over the footprint of the tank. I had a few snails in there from when I had African cichlids…only some in the sump now, none in the main tank 🤪
I have no concern re them eating the sand. They live in sandy silty environments in the wild so swallowing substrate is just part of life for a bottom dwelling bottom feeding aquatic animal.

I drove up to Columbus Ohio yesterday to pick up my new pure BD male. The trip went well and he is doing well with the existing trio. He is 17” disc width, rolled and ready. My other BDH male is about 4” smaller disc width so there hasn’t been any aggression at all since introducing him to the group.
He has been fed night crawlers exclusively for the past 9 months so I was concerned about getting him to eat, but this morning he ate cut raw shrimp and a little tilapia. Sucked in and spat out a few carnivore pellets. Hopefully he will eventually take them, but he’s not gonna starve for sure. Gonna start a red wiggler worm culture in the spring.
Here’s a vid from this am and a pic of the pattern on his underbelly 👍🏼IMG_4350.jpeg
