lol I know exactly what you are saying I am getting my new 585 this sunday. Although I am not filling it yet I am worried as hell about Filling it up the fisrt time but at least mine will be in the basement so if it does break then it will all go right out the door and at least be on concrete rather then my hardwood floor upstairs. But it deffinitly is a scary thing to put that lardge vloume of water in your house.

Can you imagine the feeling arapimag must have had for the first year or so when he se up his 15K and 50K tanks !!!!!!!

Take a rubbler mallet and tap all the corners. If it survives that you should be able to walk infront of it with no worries....

how hard should i hit it?!?! I got brave and tapped my fingers on the glass a few times lol!

Its been full for a few hours now, but apparently the third time is not the charm, i have one more leak to deal with so its draining as i type, back to the drawing board i suppose...

yep... not of what it could do to me im not at all worried about that... but of the mess they could make... scares the crap out of me.... but more than that... what the guy i rent my house from would say/do.... i dont think he would flip too much.. but i dont think he would be at all happy with me

I had my old 240 that was in this tanks place drain about 60% once during a WC... not cool

Renters insurance is fairly cheap, helps with peace of mind in that category

are you getting a new tank? I wouldnt be worried at all if it was new. I got mine off of craigslist and it hasnt seen water in at least a year

when i got my 240 g i was scared in the beginning, so scared that i wouldn't even rest my hand on the tank when feeding the fish, but now i am getting a little careless
but i hope i don't get too careless and break it by doing something stupid

I HAVE A AWESOME SOLUTION:

Put it in a concrete floored (with floor drains) basement.

Or toughen the #$%^ up (: (: (:

I'm not scared of my tanks. No reason to be scared unless the tank is aged 10 years and over.

I imagine that a 500 gallon breaking would be like... the elevator scene from "The Shining" but with water instead of blood. Horrible.:WHOA:[/quote]

Wassup Mike. Scared? Hell yeah! I only have a 100 gallon and I still get scared about the fact that it can overflow (wet/dry) or worse case, crack and leak all over my bedroom. The first thing I check when I come home to my apartment is my tank.
Always the first.

In my opinion, if anything creaks, fix every thing that you think might be wrong. Peace of mind has no price especially if it involves your fish and your property. I say reinforce every seam of the tank and make the stand as strong as a fortress. There is no such thing as an overly reinforced stand.

haha, i am not scared of getting wet, or all the water dumping onto the floor. i am only scared to walk in front of it because i think about the 8' x 3' x 3/4" front glass blowing out and shattering my bones and internal organs!
