mmmk... who cares.

i dont always spell everything correctly or use punctuation. if you can still read it why should i care ?

How well you spell can directly affect how intelligent or well educated people think you are, regardless of if it's true or not.

When some one says they suck at math, everyone just says "Oh, ok, I suck at math too, no big deal."

But when a person says they can't read, or were placed into a remedial english course on a college placement test - a lot of people make the assumption that they're not bright because of it.

Language Arts and English, for whatever reason, are a key element in how our society bases their professional opinions of people.

Because to an extent it affects how well you can communicate whether it be on your home mortgage application, on the job, etc.

It's a very important part with needing it for email/written forms/important letters.

I can tell broken english vs. lazy arse grammar believe it or not.. hardest posts to read have the latter.

Why is the NCLB the number one issue for Educators? Please expand on your comments, I'd like to hear your opinions?

NCLB is a very complex issue so I will keep this simple. NCLB dictates how and what I teach. It even dictates how many minutes a day I must teach any given subject. It creates a system based all on test taking and of little creativity and critical thinking. It also does not help failing schools and only penalizes them if test scores objectives are not reached.

This is why just last week I spent the afternoon lecturing my first graders why its so important to properly bubble in thier tests! :screwy:

NCLB is also IMPOSSIBLE. Some children will be brighter than others and its just a plan fact. Their are to many outside factors outside of school that influence a childs learning, whether it be genetics, IQ, parenting skills, resources, money, home life, etc.

Whether the general public wants to believe it or not some children will get left behind.

Ok I better stop now before I get fired typing this on a school computer!

I agree! Completely!! That's really the only thing that bothers me. I open a thread and start to read, and can't understand a freakin' thing!

No doubt GR8! It ties your hands as an educator and forces you to teach to a test. Of course some child must be left behind. Someone has to flip the burgers, mow the yards, manage Blockbuster, etc.

Gr8, our Professor was saying things are so flawed now that children whose parents can afford it are being forced to seek tutoring outside of the school in order to learn everything they need to?

I also recently saw somthing on the news where parents who home schooled their children were being forced to send their kids to school because of some stupid law - even though their children demonstrated superior skills to kids two grades higher than them!
