My Green Sev. was a little on the shy side untill he hit about 4" and then he really came out of his shell.
Now he follows me around the room when he can see me and is very "puppy" like, sort of like my Oscar when he was a juvie.

I only have one shy severum -- a wild female notatus who won't come out of her corner unless she's in a tank with other severums. The problem is that she automatically beats the crap out of every other severum I put her with. It's become a Catch-22 -- leave her alone and she sulks; give her tankmates and she relentlessly tries to kill them.
Aside from her, all of my severums are outgoing and personable. Some are friendly and let me pet them, while others are more "cat-like"... they beg for food and act all friendly, but don't actually give a crap about me beyond feeding time.
I've never really had shy juvies but that's probably because I always raise them out in groups. Having buddies around makes young fish more confident. Also, young fish seem more outgoing in a smaller tank. If you put a handful of tiny fish in a large tank (for instance, 6 little severums in an empty 75 gallon) it can be a bit intimidating.
My sevs are also very friendly, my Red likes to eat off my hand. My rotkeil and redline, redface are still about 2 to 3 inches and all very friendly. I think my gold is the bully towards the others, otherwise they all have good personality.
