Escondido's are much prettier in my opinion. Common doesn't mean it's not pretty. Plus they have great personality. Argentea are nice fish but do not have the color and are rather boring personality wise. I own both fish and I would give up a thousand Argentea over my Escondido male.
Get what you like though. You are the one that needs to enjoy the fish. I just don't get the enjoyment out of argentea that I do from my escondido's
I would go with the Argentea, i have a Carpintis and although pretty, its also pretty boring, doesent really interact that much compared to my other cichlids.
I had a Argentea before, but sold him when he got a lil to nasty for his tank mates...and he was like a little dog...real cheeky personality...kinda wish i kept him to adult hood because they are a amazing looking fish when fully grown, and very different from any other cichlid looks wise.
Kyel I see you are in Colorado. Instead of ordering from Rapps, you may want to check out www.americancichlids.net They are local here in Colorado and have many good sources for wild caught SA/CA cichlids. Best part of all, if you can pick the fish up at their house in Lafayette, then no shipping cost.
i say get both, together in the same tank makes and awesome display with a few dithers.agree americancichlids is a great site and people to deal with, plus they are close to you(pick up is always good)
