No, I don't have a source for large Haits. Gage usually has 3"ers. And he said he'd try to sex them for me if I wanted a male.

The reason is that they aren't wild caught and imported anymore. So you only have breeding pairs, and people only sell the offspring. And nobody wants to ever get rid of larger haits since they take so long and so much work to grow them. Plus, with the bloat issues these have, if someone takes that much work to raise them, they don't get rid of them later on down the road.

The last largish Hait I saw for sale was for something like $300 at 14" I think. Better off to just get some 3"ers, and grow out in that case, but it's going to take years. Large Haits seem to be super expensive.....

BTW, your Argentea was what made me start looking into them. Is that one of the Rio Tulijo's from Gage? It's really nice that you can get 7-8"ers for like $60, and they are gorgeous.

I know Haitis are subjected to bloat but wow what a fish. Mine had a lot of personality and made it passed 8 inches before I had to give him up. Stupid small tanks!!!

I am also not a big fan of the Argentea so, I am a little bias.

Good luck.

I like it nasty.

If you want a tank with just one fish, get a hait.
If you want a community at least for a while get the argentea.
I have kept both. My male hait topped out around 15", and would kill anything put in the tank.

A male Argentea reached about 12", got feisty and angry at about 8" and had to be isolated.

Both were kept in 150 gal tanks.

Have you considered a beani? :naughty:

Not mine ^

I voted for Haitiensis! They are both nice, totally opposite though besides the pattern on them; so it's really up to you.

You can not go wrong either way. They are similar in appearance to some degree. Look even the voting is even.

I haven't kept either but I voted Argentea cause they look great and from what I've heard Haitiensis are a pain to keep alive when young.
