So today I cleaned out my 30gallon African tank and decided a new system and easy way to clean it and make it nice so I re did my tank and cleaned it out it was great everyone was fine about 4 hours later All my Africans are dead except for 2 and my eel. I normally use my house water b/c its levels are perfect for my Africans... well my dad is a plumber and has everything like the sinks and showers hooked to the hose water, it is al the same water. So I asked my dad if I use the hose instead of filling buckets from the sink would it be the same water, he told me it was b/c he has it all hooked to the same system. So I used the hose water and now all my fish except for two are dead. I had 5 total in the tank, I lost my breeding pair (Johanni and Auratus) and my blue zebra :swear: :swear: My eel survived along with my one that is black with white outline and a blue looking face in the light (not positive to what it is..) and my colbalt blue Pseudotropheus or w/e :( My poor fish! I was gonna clean out my other two tanks thank gosh I got lazy and didnt. Either something happened to my water sense last month or my hose water is just scrwed up. So anyways dont use your hose water its a bad idea! :swear:

Now I am gong to go mourn the death of my africans

you declor right?

Oooo that sucks sooo bad. Sorry about your losh Ash. I hate thinking about my fish randomly dying. Took me AGES to find my red snakehead and if i lost him i'd kick my self.

I usually use my tap water too and when once i used the hose and all it did was add bits of floating algae to my tank...

hmmmmmm

what i do is let the hose run on full blast for about a minute or 2 before a refill

could be the hose too

That might be the problem....Id it was out in teh elements who knows what was inside of it....Good thing you did get lazy on your other tanks....Sorry for your loss.....

I use a Python...easy quick and clean.....might want to try it instead of buckets

Sorry to hear that Ash.

Should be fine to use water that comes out of a hose, you just need to make sure to flush out any water that has been sitting in the hose for gods-knows-how-long before hand.

There are all kinds of chemicals in the water that have leached out of the plastic/vinyl from the hose. That's why hose water as that 'hose' taste/smell!

I fill my tanks with water that comes out of a hose that is attached to the kitchen sink. Have to let it run for a while before I use it.

The problem here is temperature and chlorine if you using city water. Try using start right and keep the temperature the same, you will have much better luck this way.
