Hi,
Not looking into one, but how big do they usually get in captivity? I've seen pics of 13'ers that people caught in the amazon.

they prob get 7'-8' in captivity depending on tank maybe even 10'

I saw a few at sea-world in San Diego. Gorgeous fish. 5' but they'll grow I bet.

Thanks bro.

Find me a pic of an actual 13' and I'll be impressed. The largest wild capture (recorded) is 2.8 meters, or about 9 feet.

I don't know for sure. My book (The Encyclopedia of Exotic Tropical Fishes) said that on page 726. I've seen pics of ones that look a mile long and took 5 men to hold up.

8-9 feet is actually the common wild size these days. Before back then they grew to 12-14 feet. Overfishing of the bigger ones caused them to disappear and with the smaller one left in the wild and breed. The offspring also a carries the gene of the parents that are 8-9 feet or smaller, thus the size of them being an adult is also small.

Captive size is around 5-6 feet. Sometimes bigger.

Hmm. The pic and the book are each 4 years old. the pic is actually more like 6 years old.
Sound right?

"Back then" before legitimate records lol. Same thing as another Amazon giant, the Green anaconda.

I don't like snakes. they don't bother me, but I don't care for them.
