Armatus--3 years Old

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both my Armatus did have damage before they began circling the drain. Teh smaller had gashes that looked very much like Armatus teeth, so I believe my larger one killed the smaller. But now the larger has all the fins tattered but no teeth marks anywhere. No signs of a collision BUT I know the Lince and Armatus hate eachother. The Dorado and Brycon hang together and basically ignore the Armatus......

When I left the house today the Armatus was upside down so guessing it'll be his last night tonight.......

A serious bummer but also a small relief that I was able to get some size on these guys instead of loosing them around a foot like I did last time.

BUT IF I'm required to keep rays and a single Armatus in order to grow it big I'm out. I have to quench this thirst for ATF, besides I've always had a soft spot for Dorado so hopefully I can have the best of these two worlds and I can get them to live together......

Don, are you stuffing the fish you feed with pellets or feeding just the fish?????

Not stuffing any pellets, I started to but was a pain so quit. I didnt feed smelt the first year of the trio but did after that. They stopped eating shrimp and wanted something besides Tilapia.

I wont do one again after he is gone, want more company in with the rays and he just doesnt allow it. I want my big Scats in there but dont dare.....

So jealous of your Scats!!!! I lost all mine but 1. Only fish I've ever tried with a worse track record then Armatus - Tiger Scats. Sadly that little bugger has to be one of my favorite fish ever......

You should update us on your Scats Don..... I need some inspiration, and a place to get them from.... lol.

I suffered my share of losses with the Scats. Started with 7 Silvers, 4 greens, 3 Rubies and 2 Tigers. (16) Lost all 7 Silvers and 3 greens. But I have a strong group of 6 now. Strong enough they are in the 340 with 13 CA cichlids and dont suffer a mark. Will update soon. So lost all but one Tiger? You know why?

I believe his name is like fc3 or something like that he's the guy that has had the large aimara in the 600 for a number of years and had the two together for awhile, he lost it recently, I could be wrong on how long he kept it though. I could be mistaking it for the wolf or just be wrong. Which is why I said I believe, I'll try to find his name.
You're right! fc3 had his Armatus close to 5 years, July 2011 to Jan 2016. It died at 29" mark

MFK needs a book of legends for this to go in....... Someone needs to make a sticky of record sizes for said species in different parts of the world..... If forced to share information we're all bound to learn something......

Just wanted to chime in, my Larger ATFs are not skittish at all, the gatf actually quite calm even with my hand in the water. However my smaller gatf that's about a foot is really skittish. He was the only skittish one out of a lot of 3 that I had before together.
Here is a pic of the two Armatus that I'm going to adopt after my new tank is setup. I think they are around 16-18"
