Is this the arm that you've had for the past year? What other fish do you have in the tank and which one is doing the scratching? It does not sound like Debo has ich from what you describe but the other fish may have some sort of parasite, could be from feeder fish.Make sure the arm is not fighting with another fish from which it could have gotten an injury from brushing against something during a chase. You are using Aquarium salt right?I dont remember how much to use but it has the dose ammount on the label.

Yes this is the same Armatus! I have pulled my clown knife becasue it looked as if he was harrassing him. He has not had feeders (goldfish), but I have feed him minnows from the bait shop as a treat from time to time.
Ths fish I noticed scratching was my Indo DAT..

Yeah I looked back and saw where you identified the knife as the bully. It sounds like some parasites might have been brought in on the minnows,I would remove the dat to a small hospital tank and treat it with coppersafe.

you said in your other thread you did "spring cleaning" by removing everything and cleaning it, you may have lost some bio and he is suffering from this. I would never recommend doing that!

Yes,it is almost like putting your fish in a new, unestablished tank.

I would definetly check water parameters on a daily basis for a while. Check ammonia, nitrite, ph, nitrates with a good quality liquid test kit such as api.

Salt is usually dosed at 1 table spoon to every 5 gallons of tank water. I would add half the dose in the morning and the other half in the evening. Some say to dissolve it in water before adding it. But I never do.

The head jerking sounds alot like gill flukes or other internal parasite. A good dose of prazi pro or jungle parasite clear will get rid of those with out harming the bio filter. Jungles product contains prazi, metro, and a few other very popular parasite meds all in one easy to use tablet.

I feed live only and i treat my new batches of feeders with jungle parasite clear for a week before feeding. And then i do a yearly parasite treatment on the tanks as well. I don't own armatus but I have ttreated Tats and scombs and cuda's many many times with these meds with no ill effects.

I will have to get onboard with this information...

i agree.
dont use meds.
hydrolycus arent very med safe.
add salt, keep the temp high, and keep up those water changes.

Thanks all Debo, is back to him old self,Though I am minus a knife fish, I still want one though, but maybe I'll try a royal knife they don't seem to be very aggressive..

Since then I have turned up the heat to about 87deg in the even it si some type of ich. How much salt do you add to you 300gl?

I also have a 300 and I use a 12oz aquafina bottle (change it once a month or so) and fill it about 1/4 full of salt, then add warm water 3/4 full... shake it and add it little by little (salt dont delute in one shake, it usually takes me 3-4 rounds). I dont measure it, I just fill the water bottle.
