Need some big help. i haven't seen my armatus eat in front of me for AT LEAST 2 weeks already! Everytime i put fish fillet into the tank, my aratus just swims away! He has never been like this before unless he is not hungry! The thing is, the next day i wake up, all the food is gone. There are some tiny pieces of the fillets left over. i have a red wolf and bichirs in the tank and I don't think they eat that much of the food.

Would the armatus still be eating the food after it has hit the bottom of the tank for hours? my fish is still perfectly healthy looking and it's VERY active. Absolutely no signs of weakness or illness of any sort.
Swims normally as always.

my Armatus used to explode at salmon fillets everynight. It was only when the salmon ran out and I tryed feeding it catfish fillet stuffed with pellets. I don't think my armatus liked the catfish at all.
i got more salmon fillets 2 weeks ago. My armatus still isn't interested.

What's wrong? Is it on a hunger strike again? WHAT'S THE LONGEST HUNGER STRIKE YOU GUYS EXPERIENCED? All my other fish are fine and eating well. I think my armatus is actually hungry because it's always eyeing at my bichirs now.

help asap.

What's the water like? Temp? Current?

He'd probably kill himself if he tried to swallow a birchir. Those things have armor plating.

not sure about water but i'm prett sure there is no spike. I do 50% water cganges every week and just changed the filter sponge. the temp is 80 degrees. my tank doesn't have the strongest current but my fish was always chill like that.

My armatus goes on periodic fasts as have the arms I have had in the past.If yours is eating the food from the bottom when you are not around then that's no big problem.

I haven't confirm that my armatus have eaten from the ground. it might be the tankmates that have eaten it. What's the longest time you guys have your armatus fast?

The longest my Armatus went without eating was almost 3 months.

Every now and then he will just stop eating and after a few weeks will start again.

I never worry about it anymore. If he stops eating I just stopped feeding him until he starts coming to the top of the aquarium begging for food. Once he is hungry enough he will eat.

How big was your armatus when it didn't eat for 3 months? Are 100% sure that it didn't eat ANY food?

I had my Armatus eating smelt but after it took a liking to sunnies and yellow perch, it stopped taking smelt/eating for a month. I threw some shiners in just to see if it would eat and once I knew it wasn't sick. I kept tossing in smelt twice a week. When I saw that it caught it's attention (visual) I knew it was only a matter of time before it would take it again. It took another 3 weeks before it eats smelt again. It will probably kill or eat poly soon. It tried taking a thick Koi but it was too big, cause some damage but recovered.
