Ok so i got an armatus about 4 weeks ago, and he is about 9". He was already broke of feeders and eating frozen shrimp.
After i had him 2 days he started eating shrimp, cut into thirds. He would eat about 1 to 1-1/2 shrimps a day. I was even getting him to eat the shrimp with massivore in it. For about the past week he started charging the pcs and just "nosing" it and was not interested. I can go back and try to feed a little while later and sometimes he will actually fang it and do a little chewing motion and then spit it out. I started thinking that maybe the pcs are too big so i tried smaller and got the same results. He will actually swallow 1 little 1/4-1/2" pc of shrimp every night but that is not much food. What should i try? I want to see some growth since he is kinda small for his age (compared to others fromt this batch).

I have slipped in 1 quarentined feeder a few weeks ago, could this have spoiled him and made him not want frozen? any advise appreciated.

The feeder may have done it..

Just cut back on feeding schedule...make him want more.

Let him go 2-3 days without food and try again.

that is what i was afraid of.. I also thought since i do lots of water changes on this tank it may be stressing him, but he charges the food....

IF I gave mine one feeder, they would refuse other food for a few days.

All mine preferred smelt over shrimp.... They don't eat a whole lot of shrimp in the wild.... LOL

It helps to have competition at feeding times..... Maybe add some dithers that will go after the food on the way down.

so the 1 feeder screwed him up.. i will starve him a bit. and also pick up some kril and maybe silversides.

i have a 5" silver dollar in there, that the armatus hates!! but the silver dollar tries to school with him...lol

It seems when the silverdollar goes after the food teh armatus just lets him have it.

Everyone's experiences are different, I'm just sharing mine....

Silversides are going to get awfull expensive awfull fast.... I'd try to track down a source for smelt.... As you are more than likely going to need it in the future.

What is the waterchange schedule like?

water change schedule is 50% 3-4 times a week tank size is just 150 gallon. tankmated 1 silver dollar, armatus, 3 small hystrix 2 x 4.5" and 1 x 6"

about a 8 time turn over.
