Armatus guys... I need your wisdom! Army + GATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got lucky. He was eating bloodworms at my lfs. Brought him home and he wouldn't eat for about 3 or 4 days. Dropped some nls pellets in and he swam out of his corner and started devouring them off the bottom lol. Now I feed a combo of nls and carnivore pellets 1-2 times a day. He's about another 2" away from going with the big boys who eat massivore

Nice! I think I might go for it.

Ok one more question guys... another FATF or a small afrowana? I can choose between those two.

I've actually got a probably-batf coming and I really want a lei. I wouldn't trust a jar to play nice. I'm not gonna get a silver unless I can find an albino. An albino silver is a hardcore bucket list fish for me. The regular ones look too much like a black IMO. I'll need a vatf and tatf, too. I can't find those for some reason. :irked:

What do you guys think about a clown knife's growth? I have a shot at a 6" CK at my LFS for $20. It looks really nice and healthy. I don't think it'd be any real threat to anyone, but I'm not really familiar with them other than that I think they're cool. They're not too much of a growth champ, are they?

Rob,
I got my CK with 8cms (3"+) in late March/early April. In the beginning of August he had 27cms (almost 11"). I have him in a 55g grow-out with 5 florida gars changing 50-60% of the water weekly. I will measure him again tomorrow because I´m transferring the group from the gorwout to the 250g and I will prob take a few pics
I noticed a growth spur when he started eating massivore. If I let him, he chomps 7 or 8 pellets every time I feed him (leaving no food for the gars).

Not sure of the how it will end but my Trio of Armatus will go with my 10-11 inch VATF. In the end I think it will be doom for the VATF.:( The Armatus are much more aggro.......

^This.

If you value your goliath enough to perform surgery on his fin to attempt to have it regrow without a bend, then I cant imagine you would want to deal with constant tattered fins, shanking, stress, and potential death or severe damage caused by the armatus.

Every fish has a different personality/temperament but there can only be so much aggression in a tank and dithers only do so much. Everyone in the predatory characins section tries to put as many aggressive fish in their tank as possible but its extremely difficult to find a good balance when their is only so much space for the less aggressive/dominant fish to avoid the alpha.

If you want to keep your Goliath stress free and looking great then I would not add an armatus at all. If you don't mind the occasional dust up with the potential to loose him if one goes too far in the future then go for it. Never know what can potentially work until you try.

I personally would not do it, as I have tried in the past and it did not work well at all. Good luck with whichever way you decide to go.

more more more more more. That's all anyone thinks anymore. More is not better. Raise the fish alone. Less preditation, problems in general. Set up an armatus tank if you want armatus...just my .02
