Armatus hardiness?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I want to finally go ahead and get an armatus for a total of around $160. But I'm VERY nervous. I'm not sure if I could put that kind of money in and lose a fish before I even watch it grow much. How easily do they die?

My set up would be a 75 gallon grow out with two powerful powerheads creating a strong current. Temp around 85 F. Sand bottom. Sound good?

Any tips or advice?

75 gallon is too small for a growout. They get nervous and smack into ornaments and the glass because it's too small of an area for them. It ends up damaging their mouth. I am trying one out in a 90 gallon and its too small for it also. I had the best luck with my 5 foot 150 gallon for ones I had a few years ago. Eventually they went into my 450 gallon.

Actually a 125, lol my bad. Thats fine for a growout, right?

The longer the tank the better and I had best luck when I just kept the Armatus without tankmates until they got bigger. Mine is with some BBSD and some flagtails and they seem to make him more nervous.
