My 12 inch armatus who has been taking MP like a champ suddenly will not eat it anymore, its been about a week. He will strike it chew it for a second , than spit it out. He is currently in a 6x2 foot tank with a tig. Any ideas? Thanks

Is he starting to swim off balanced or a little vertical head up?

What is MP?

Just keep an eye on him, we don't need another one to die from wasting disease (nutritional deficiency) or a parasite.

He is swimming and acting normally otherwise.

MP= Market Prawn/ frozen shrimp

I don't really want to go back to feeders

I'm thinking the same thing as Hybridtheoryd16. I feed smelt exclusive from 6" to 12" and they stopped eating, swam funny and died. Why? I concluded fluke or nuitrition. Originally I thought they were shanking each other causing injury but my parrot are fine. I would like to know what you come up with. Please keep us posted.

i think it all comes down to these guys needing live feeders. hybrid and myself had this discussion already. ive deceided not to take my scombs off live for this reason.

if dont have to have a quarantine tank for your feeders, even though its recommended. the lfs i get mine from does a pretty goos job of keeping them healthy. i will buy 24 at a time and feed them as soon as i add them to the tank. i will gut load them for a few days then all gone.

So I guess the next question is , who has their armatus strictly eating non-live foods.

My large one did before I traded it, he was about 13" or so. He ate smelt, shrimp, krill, MP and massivore deligth pellets.

I fed him every 2 days. He did went on a hunger strike one time for about a week. At that point, he was on MP only. I started to throw krill in there, he'd did the same thing (chew it and spit it out after a few seconds). I keep trying with scallops, and finally ate a piece of smelt.

How long was he on MP ?

Try to cut it smaller to where he can only swallow it, if not, try different variety.

He's propably just picky, if he's not healthy, he wouldn't go for the food in the first place

Fang went on hunger strikes the second my ph fluctuated. after it went back to normal it still took him a few days to start eating again.

i was feeding him shrimp and smelt, sometimes stuffed w massivore. i always liked to give him big feeders for treats also. it took me a while but eventually i could feed him live one day and he would still take frozen the next day.
