I grew my old Armatus from 2"-16.5" and 99% of the time after 7 or 8" it was Market Shrimp (rarely I did a feeder). I dont remember him going on hunger strickes at all. I would do 50% water changes weekly his whole life till I sold him.
At that size, i would go as long as 3 weeks with out feeders. If its close to 3 weeks or he is showing signs of weakness, toss in 2 oe 3 small feeders. I doubt he will go that long with out eating though.
