i bought my armatus already eating frozen tilapia but a friend of mine has a scomb. he told me he was only going to dump krill into the tank until the scomb ate it or died. that fish didnt eat for almost 2 months then one day went bezerk when the krill hit the water. now it eats 3-4 pieces each feeding. i think thats the key is starvation

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I don't like the idea of letting the fish starve.
We do get tilapias here.. haven't really seen any big ones though. For now, the Tin Foil Barbs seem to be doing ok. Though he does seem to eat less, compared to the Silver Sharks.

proly cuz he knows wats good for him lol barbs are in the same family as goldfish right? cyprinids i think. they contain thiaminase which inhibits vitamin b absorption. is there any native fish of size that you can just catch and quarantine for like a few weeks?

:O For Real?!?
I'd better not get those anymore then.. SO am back to SilverSharks.

Not really sure how safe it is to get fishes from the wild. Considering, my other tank is now housing a GATF till it grows big enough for his own 4-ft tank.

ive done it for a while when i had a native fish. ild try it wit your armatus just quarantine the fish u catch for a few weeks, gut load them to perfection, and they should be harmless. this way u'd have a free supply of feeders, and u can also pick species and size. just look for a pristine river or lake and they should be ok

Sadly, I don't think Singapore has any pristine freshwater lakes or rivers. But your method could be something I look into for Silver Sharks. Am not sure what their growth rate is - Shall google it after this post. So i can get a whole bunch and start growing them out. Might take awhile before they reach the size I need, but if I kept at it, I should have a reliable source after some time.
