hey guys. my armatus keeps bumbing and scratching its nose on the glass so now the nose is injured. dunno if i should treat with melafix or salt is fine?
also, will it grow back to the way it was?? :(

and a follow up question, how can i avoid this? it seems he does this when its excited or pissed??? :screwy:

just leave him be. bit if salt if it's more than just a scratch. it'll grow back. best not irritate or stress him further.

he's bumping cos he's not comfortable. either not enough space or something's making him scared. put some cover in there, a tall rock in the middle may do the trick.

ok. so salt is fine.:) thanks!

it means he's not comfortable? but i noticed too that he does it as soon as the lights are out and it starts to hunt for food. could that be a reason too?

yea not at ease. armatus and payaras in general dont crash into their surroundings unless they freak out and dart.

he might be more comfortable hunting when lights are off, possibly the lights are too bright? could be that turning off the lights scares him (if so this may be a big issue later as they get big enough to kill themselves).

if he's crashing into the glass while hunting, Im guessing the tank is too small, these guys are pretty coordinated and aware of surroundings

no lights are dimmed. i noticed this after i put an eggcrate in his tank to separate him from the thinbar.. he's in a 60 and its a 3" armatus. the thinbar is kinda attacking it, it's 1". nothing too serious but i dont want to take a risk so i put the divider until i set up the thinbar's tank tomorrow..

maybe the eggcrate is the cause?

took out the dat, the orino and the egg crate..its still restless..
ever since i got it 2 weeks ago, its really restless and active at night but tonight is just crazy. it swims up and down, left to right, goes around the entire tank like it wants to go outside the tank. doesnt matter whether the lights are dimmed, off or full bright. he's extra crazy tonight!

yea may be it has perceived the egg-crate to be a threat. ive noticed that fish get more nervous when the light on the outside is brighter than the light on the inside of the tank. if he's swimming around like that for sure it's disturbed

It has happened to mine b4 when they were newly introduced. I would keep the environment dim for them a few days, we'll see if he gets more comfy, mine did!
