they seem to be doin ok so far. theyre both about the same size now, except armatus ate about 10 fish and is chillin in one spot. my armatus seems to be doin ok with everyone else, i hope he stays friendly as he outgrows everyone. has anyone tried to bring up the diff species from babies and been successful?
sorry bro, haven't heard any success stories. Armatus tend to be more aggressive and territorial than redtails. Hopefully you'll be the first. I'm rooting for you bro. Good luck.
If you want a chance at all of them getting along you NEED a big tank. Considering the size they are now I'de say 180 MINIMUM and HUGE by the end of the summer. Size is one of the only things you can control, Ide make sure you don't slack in this department.
One on one no way. I'de get like 5 more redtails and introduce them and the current 2 fish into the new tank at the same time. Maybe a pack of redtails will be able to hold up against 1 Armatus. And get LOTS of dithers.
Maybe a divider? At feeding times section them off, powerfeed the redtails and feed the Armatus the bare minimum. I have seen reports of Armatus only growing 1/2 in per month and redtails 1in/ mo. So it might work. But I definetly wouldn't approve of this method.
i believe you underestimate the rtb. As long as size is relatively equal I'd say it's 1st strike 1st served both are equipped with weaponry to be fatal but ideally peaceful to other fish. A behavior I have noticed with rtb's they get jealous, they don't like watching other fish eat their food(ex. tossing one feeder in a school of cuda's) i have a couple instances of this posted, in my "cuda frenzy" vid(@47 seconds) rtb attack a tiger crayfish which they actually finished him off not long ago. rtb v rtb aggression recorded here ... barracuda vs barracuda doc
We're talking redtail payara, not RTBs. Sorry bro, but if you've ever owned an Armatus, you'd understand. There's no way a RTB would be able to hang with an armatus.
