This my third or fourth one.I said I would not be getting anymore after this one due to the previous arms turning up dead on me.I have ths one about three years now and got him at three inches.None of the previous arms were skittish,at all....My first one dd not take water changes well as itwould rapidly pump its gills for almost a half hour before settling down after a change.They all just died with no symptoms...

I expected more flaming by now lol,I get lazy with that tank and I know I should do more changes....There is a ten inch bahia kel and a six inch indo dat in there also.
My first one that got to about 18" was bit skittish either. But I had a bare bottom tank, and can't stand algae on bottom panel, so I was using a mop to clean algae. After I was done I was in another room and heard a loud noise ran to see a huge blister on armatus eye. Dead one week later.
Maybe the less waterchanges makes him happier... Les you ate messing with tank makes him more comfy...

I think it all comes down to the individual fish and what their specific tolerances are. Mine is about 8" now and is a total beast. Waterchanges, maintenance, whatever I do the army doesnt seem to care. During daylight hes almost un spookable lol but omnce the tank lights shut off I need to tip toe around his tank so he doesnt freak out. Still not the best feeder, only likes talapia and shrimp so far, iv been trying to stuff them with pellets, but he'll spit it out so hopfuly soon he'll learn to accept stuffed foods like most my fish.
Mine is now about 8" but does not seem that skittish when im around the tank, It comes to the front of the tank and literally begs for food when I start feeding. Just hope it lives to be a monster
