Armatus won't eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It rubs it's nose cuz it's skittish. Babies are always nervous until they get a foot or so. When i got mine, it had rubbed it's nose alot and it becam red. Now it healed. I would show my beauty but i'm too lazy! lol

He seems settled in now, hes actualy out roaming the tank, still fights his own reflection smetimes. Is this normal for these types of fish? Iv seen many pics of peoples developing "nose rub". Anywhoo he ate about 5 to 6 bite sized pieces of talapia last night. Hes not picky about picking it up off the ground either, almost seems like the armatus preferres it that way.

Im just happy he adjusted well, and is now on the right track to becomming a fish i will enjoy for years to come. Thanks for all your input guys, I will upload some pics later when im off work. Kinda hiding in the lunch room right now lol

don't overfeed it now :)

He's still not the most active during the day, but once the lights turn off and the moonlights kick in, he's constantly out swimming. So for the next while (or until he's more comfortable during the daytime) I'm going to feed him once a day. Once he's more active I may bump up his feeding. How often and how much do you feed yours?

I feed mine once every night. I give it one or 2 chunks of fish fillet or cut shrimp chunks depending if it's interested or not. Once the belly has a bump, it'll be all good. :)

show some update pics!

Good job getting him to eat!

Slippery K, what kind of moray is that in your avatar?

Heres a couple pics. During the day he mostly hangs around the back/top right corner, but does come out occassionaly to swim around a bit. Once the lights turn off and moonlight kicks in, hes constantly out swimming. He even comes face to face with me now when im by the tank, doesnt seem to be shy at all. Hes eating well now, still only talapia but its a start, and definatly not picky about picking it up off the bottom (heard some peoples wont touch it once it hits ground)

Will try and update with more pictures tonight when hes out and about with the moonlight on.

beauty! My armatus came from the same batch as your armatus so ours might be siblings! O_0
Ya, mine just started to eat variety. before, my armatus was still picky and it wouldn't eat anything that fell to the ground or anything other than SMALL talapia chunks. Now it pounces on everything I put in the water! It eats like achamp now! Soon your armatus will be like that too.

What's the size of your tank? My armatus became less skittish when I seperated my largemouth bass with a divider. What are your tankmates? What current?

Hes solo in a 120gal right now, the pbass he was going to be tank mates with randomly died in his growout tank one day. And im not sure on the power head strength, will have to dig through storage for the box. He will be upgraded as needed with a 180, have the funds saved up, but cant setup until the 120 is moved. Most the other fish I have are saltwater aside from the girlfriends and my sons goldfish haha
