Hydrolycus armatus is a specific species of payara and command high prices
Hydrolycus scomberoides is a seperate species of payara, and the one i belive you have. less expensive, more skittish of the group and gets alot of bad publicity over survivability in aquaria.
not hard to take care of as much as different. consider blacking out the walls of the tank, adding aeration (not so much in the way of current, but in the way of exposed filter outlets/bubblewands), and lining the glass with soft decor to avoid the fatal glass smashing these fish are known for.
but yes, you aro will be just fine
if you want a more armatus like payara try looking for a tat/redtail payara. way more outgoing of the family, less insane.
