Tail is too big for a scomb. Hope you didn't get beat. How much was it?

scomb is short for the species name. There are a few different species of fish all called vampire tetra's or payara's. Other species in the same genus are H. armatus, H. tat, and H. scomb

^this.

Although the REAL "Vampire tetra" is Raphiodon vulpines. But it is easy to distinguish between r. Vulpines and the hydrolycus genus.

cost isn't any indication. you'll find plenty of armatus for cheap these days. they just got in season, plenty of stock.

btw, it's easy to identify a scomb if you aren't good at telling the difference between the different body shapes and head, a scomb has a black dot underneath the pectoral fin. btw, yours look just like my juvenile armatus I got in. they honestly look like armatus; time will tell if it's a tat or armatus. If you got it from ECZS and the shipment came from his colombia collection point, it's an armatus. the tats and scombs aren't found there

Definitely NOT a Scomb. It could be a Tat or Armatus... Hard to ID at this size

Just because it's cheap, it's not a Scomb.

whets the difference between a scomb and a vampire tetra?
You don't know the differences, yet you're "almost 100 percent its a scomb..." :screwy:
