Try asking the question in the "gar" sub forum. You may be surprised as to what the expert gar keepers thoughts are on this mix.
Myself I have never kept a gar. So can't really comment from experience. I would like to keep a gar but have found enough reasons not to risk it myself.

I have a 15" silver and a 12" Florida gar....have had them together for about a month and havent had a single issue.
they are actually buddys! I think it all depends on the temperment of the fish whether they get along or not.
