Quarantine Tank
I was at my LFS today asking about ordering a Dat for my tank. When I told him I would be raising it with my silver aro he recommended against it due to their prefered ph differences. Is this true? I would hate not having a chance to own a dat. I know Ive seen pictures of an aro and dat together in tanks before, is there some secret to keeping them together or does this guy simply not know what he is talking about? Any extra info on mixing an aro and dat together would be greatly appreciatted!!!

So do you think an aro, dat, and oscar are fine in my 180 tank?

yes, why not definately can.

look at my avatar.

make sure when you chose dats, chose those that have good dark black strips with deep yellow contrast. these are the better grades dats.

there are some dats that no matter what you do, they are always unstable, its their genes..

I took a glance at a reference book and it stated that aros like 6.5-7.0 ph and a hardness between 6-8, it lists dats as prefering 7.0 ph and a hardness of 8. Doesn't seem a problem and there are members who keep very nice ones together, like zhuangsw. Bear in mind though that this old book also says that black aros seldom get over 18" long, lol.
