Just a load of pics showing my 22 month old MGXB and his progress over the last couple of years, including his upgrade to 6x2.5x2.5 with 4ft sump and misfit tank mates! Video coming later!

Wah Seah Arowana farm, Kuala Kangsar and Bukit Merah.

CAT - 3.jpg Had finally chosen one after an hour and got a great price for a 5 inch XB. My missus immediately came up with the name Ari Gold (from 'Entourage' for those unlucky enough not have watched it!) and I was sold.

Didn't take long for him to lose his WTT shine. Straight into a black background which looked better for the living room. Knew I'd have to be patient with his colour!

A few months later, in the 4ft planted tank with some Discus, Tetras and Loaches. We managed to find one of the only Arowana that doesn't eat live fish. So we're lucky enough to have quite an intricate community tank with plenty of customers to pick up his scraps and mess.

CAT - 3.jpg
6x2.5x2.5 going in. Too big for the old spot!

CAT - 4.jpg
Tiled the back which was an absolute mission. Rather more tricky than I'd envisioned! Opted for black sand as well.
CAT - 3 (1).jpg CAT - 6.jpg After about 10 days of cycling with old media and various other fish, he goes in.

CAT - 4 (1).jpg
4ft sump. Before reaching the sump, water has overflowed onto 80 or so bio-balls. In the sump is Japanese mat followed by a layer of bio-balls to ensure a strong flow without blockage. Around 90 bio-homes with air stone bottom center. 8-10kg of ceramic rings with two air stones bottom center. Finally, lava rock (more to come) with Money Plants growing from ceramic rings and a final air stone underneath. There's also 20-30 shrimps living down there!

CAT - 5.jpg

CAT - 7.jpg
The current 6x2.5x2.5ft setup with 4ft sump. Includes Discus, Angel Fish, Squeaker, Loaches, Parrot Fish (not my choice!), Chinese White Sturgeon (rescue), Plecos, Sword Tails, Cichlid and Albino Cory Cats.

Beautiful stock and set up, that filtration looks like some serious overkill, but I like it. The area around your tank is nice too, I bet it makes for a beautiful display.

Actually I would suggest that you use white sand instead. It will help encouraging the xb to continue to develop the crossing and have cleaner looking fish in there without the over tan look on it. And as a plus, the tank will look even brighter with white sand. ;)

I agree but it wouldn't have looked as good within that area of the house, would negate the point of having a black theme and would have required much more regular cleaning. The only fish it really affected were my 2 year oldLoaches which turned much darker. Shame!

No worries. You can still have the black sides just use a lighter shade for the base apart from the black or dark brown. In fact, river sand look good in there. Your clown loach will lighten up as well as your xb's top.

Thanks! It's a bit of a mission to change the substrate so I may have to wait until I'm bored of black! Hoping his genes will prevail and shine will cross anyway, even if it does take another year or so. They can keep crossing until 5 years right?

Nice looking tank and Aro! Are the white lines in the picture part of the background?

Thanks for sharing.
