and 10k gallons is better, so its 20k gallons, or 30k gallons. 8x2x2 is ideal to start it off and get it going til its about 14 years old. then after that u may want the xtra 12"... i doubt he'l even own the aro to the point where it seems to big, trust me. my 8x2.5x2.5 seems like heavin for my 3year old aro... only 11 more years to go b4 ill know if his tank is to small =x

He want to know if the tank would work for the LIFE of the fish. An 8x2x2 is too small.

Well I voted yes, you could keep a Silver aro in there for life, BUT it is not the ideal tank. In my opinion you need to have tank length be at least 3 times the aros length and the tank width and depth be at least the aros length. So to prepare for a 3 foot aro you'll need a 9' x 3' x 3'.

I would start with the 240 gallon, when your aro reaches 26" long you'll then have to decide what is the right thing to do for your fish.

Mine has been in a 240 for 2.5 yrs now and he is just about 22-24". He is well fed but not overfed. Good and healthy...I have not heard any complaints yet....but lifespan is like 20 years so well see how he grows.

If this fails I'll get a Jardini for my 180 for life.

the question is more of, how long is he gonna keep the aro. yes, for the aros life, he prolly wants more. but if i was the aro, i'd be so happy i aint stuck in one of them asian style tanks like a 110gal for 15+ years. it happens, 240 is plenty as the majority has casted the votes. of course bigger is always better. but a 240 is fine. the arowana doesn't turn around like a semi-truck. it makes swift quick turns

should be ok, but the width is your problem. it may hinder growth. if you can do 2.5 or 3 ft wide it will be much better. if your stuck on the volume opt to take some off the length and make it wider.

Personally, if the width of the tank is smaller than the fish the tank is too small. But some people think smaller tanks work, so it really doesn't matter what any of us think, it depends on what you feel is the right thing to do.

240 will stunt its growth, but it can be done... I'd say more of an 8x4x4 tank would be good or a 8x5x3 would be awesome.. if they can get 4 feet then a 2 foot wide tank is NOT cuttin it!

how many 4ft aros have you seen in your generation? not heard of hitting that big, or so n so said this place has one. how many 4ft aros have you seen in your generation?

:WHOA: If my silver ever gets to even 3 feet, I'm donating him to our public aquarium. If they won't take him I'll drive him up to Minnesota and put him in that 145000 gallon flooded amazon forest of Zoodivers:headbang2

Fish should get to their potential size in the home aquarium, without a doubt. Their lives in captivity should be superior to anything they could experience in the wild. They are feed regularly, they have no predators, they should have sufficient space, their water temps should be stable.....and I am sure there are many more examples.

If our fish are not reaching their potiential we should put the blame on are selves and look for possible ways in which to improve.
